In 1857, Philip Marquam, a gold-miner turned lawyer, purchased 298 acres that became known as Marquam Hill. In the early 1900’s, a medical school was built on the hill and over the years, “Pill Hill” has expanded into the current University of Oregon Health Sciences Center (OHSU), which includes the Dental School and Portland Shriners Hospital.

The neighborhood overlooking Downtown and the Willamette River, is filled with a mixture of historic homes and apartment buildings. Its location in the West Hills offers prestige and accesability to nature.
